Deliverable D.2.4.1 – Preliminary Study for the Establishment of National and Regional Nodes
VIEW OUTPUTThis study outlines the methodology and framework for setting up the BioFarms National and Regional Nodes — local innovation hubs that will connect SMEs, research institutions, policymakers, and civil society. It defines their governance model, mission, services, and key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring coherence and comparability across all participating countries. Each Node will act as a regional entry point to the BioFarms Cluster, fostering collaboration, capacity-building, matchmaking, and access to innovation
Deliverable D.1.5.1 – BioFarms Toolkit
VIEW OUTPUTThe BioFarms Toolkit is a practical guide that supports SMEs, farmers, and entrepreneurs in adopting circular bioeconomy strategies. It includes templates, self-assessment tools, feasibility study guides, and case studies to help businesses valorise agricultural by-products and develop sustainable business models. The toolkit combines theory with practice — offering concrete steps to design, implement, and monitor circular innovations, improve resource efficiency, and access funding opportunities. It serves as a cornerstone for building capacity and driving sustainable growth in the bioeconomy sector of the Adriatic–Ionian region.
Deliverable D.1.3.1 – Market Demand Study
VIEW OUTPUTThe Market Demand Study provides an in-depth analysis of the bioeconomy potential across the Adriatic–Ionian region. It explores how agri-food residues and medicinal & aromatic plants (MAPs) can be transformed into high-value bioactive ingredients for the nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries.
Through national profiles, SWOT analyses, and regional comparisons, the study identifies key value chains, highlights pilot opportunities, and proposes measures to strengthen SME competitiveness, certification, and circular economy models.
It sets the foundation for the BioFarms Cluster to build a coordinated, transnational bio-based market ecosystem.
New Deliverable Published: List of Matrices for Exploitation (D.1.2.2)
VIEW OUTPUTWe are pleased to share the newly published Deliverable D.1.2.2 – List of Matrices for Exploitation, developed in the framework of the BioFarms Cluster (BFC) project under the Interreg VI-B IPA Adriatic-Ionian programme.
This deliverable offers a comprehensive overview of plant-based and agri-food waste matrices with strong potential for valorisation through innovative, sustainable, and circular bioeconomy approaches. Two complementary formats of the deliverable are now available: 🔍 Narrative Report The structured document outlines:- The project context and objectives of the matrix selection process
- Key insights into endemic and typical Mediterranean plant species, focusing on biodiversity conservation and high-value compound extraction (essential oils, flavonoids, terpenes, etc.)
- Valorisation opportunities of local agri-food by-products such as grape pomace, citrus peel, tomato seeds, and olive leaves
- Technical objectives and challenges for upcoming piloting activities, including extraction processes, supply chain development, and regulatory considerations
- Categorised matrices by biodiversity and circular economy focus
- Detailed botanical species from the Mediterranean maquis and their corresponding bioactive compounds
- Agri-food by-products identified in Calabria (Italy) and their phytochemical profiles
- Potential benefits and challenges for exploitation, along with recommendations for piloting and market integration
Deliverable D1.2.1 – Assessment of the Process, Protocols, and Know-How
VIEW OUTPUT- The final illustrated version presents the extraction techniques in an accessible, visual format, highlighting real examples of wild herbs and agri-food by-products used in pilot activities.
- The technical report by GOEL offers a more structured and detailed analysis of the same processes, including matrix pre-treatment steps, equipment used, and data gathered from preliminary trials to estimate production capacity.
Download both documents to explore the innovation behind sustainable extraction practices in the Adriatic–Ionian region.
New Deliverable Published: Survey on Incentivising Green and Circular Economy through Biodiversity Management
VIEW OUTPUTWe are pleased to announce the release of Deliverable D1.4.1, a comprehensive survey carried out within the framework of the Biofarms (BFC) project. This transnational report explores how innovative green and circular economy practices can be promoted through biodiversity management by farmers and SMEs across the Adriatic-Ionian and Western Balkan regions.
Conducted by project partners in Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, and Albania, the study maps national legal frameworks, stakeholder participation mechanisms, certification schemes, and public-private collaboration models. It highlights how biodiversity-enhancing agricultural practices can support sustainable rural development and value-added sectors such as nutraceuticals and cosmetics. This deliverable sets the foundation for future project actions, particularly the development of the Biofarms Toolkit, and contributes to shaping more inclusive, nature-positive policy and business environments across the region.
